Copilot Readiness Audit

Microsoft 365 Copilot is a powerful tool. In a school environment, it also comes with real safeguarding and data governance implications. This audit makes sure you’re ready before you deploy.

Copilot can save staff significant time on admin, planning, and communication. But it surfaces content from across your Microsoft 365 environment, including content that staff may not realise is accessible to it. In a school setting, that matters enormously.

Pupil data. Sensitive HR files. Safeguarding records. If your permissions aren’t right, Copilot can expose information in ways you haven’t planned for.

Our Copilot Readiness Audit looks at your Microsoft 365 environment through the lens of a school, checking your data governance, access permissions, licensing, and configuration against best practice for educational settings. We cross-reference against relevant guidance including UK GDPR, KCSIE, and Microsoft’s own recommended controls for education tenants.

What we assess

Microsoft 365 licence setup and Copilot eligibility
Data governance – sensitivity labels, retention policies, and information architecture
SharePoint and OneDrive permissions – who can access what, and whether Copilot can surface it
Guest and external access controls
Identity and access management – MFA, Conditional Access, and admin roles
Safeguarding-relevant configurations specific to education tenants

What you get

FAQs

We haven’t deployed Copilot yet. Should we still do this?
Yes. This is the right time to do it. Getting your environment in good shape before you enable Copilot is much easier than trying to remediate issues after the fact.

We already have Copilot running. Is it too late?
No, but it’s worth acting promptly. The audit will identify any risks in your current setup and tell you what to fix.

Does this cover our safeguarding obligations?
Yes. Safeguarding-relevant configuration is a specific focus of the school version of this audit.
